Certified Prosthetists and Certified Orthotists are unique paramedical health professionals who provide biomechanical devices, called prostheses and orthoses, to physically disabled persons to enable them to function better. Certified Orthotists and Prosthetists have undergone years of training specific to the field of prosthetics and orthotics. Many people have a degree or diploma in health sciences before entering their prosthetic and orthotic program. To become a Certified  Prosthetist or Certified Orthotist, a 2- year clinical prosthetic and orthotic program must be completed, followed by a 2-year internship training program under a Canadian Certified Prosthetist or Orthotist and the successful completion of  National Certification Exams of Prosthetists and Orthotists.
